Eluru: The police arrested the owner and driver of the ill-fated launch that capsized in river Godavari at Vadapalli in Polavaram mandal, which claimed 22 lives, on May 15.
Addressing media at Polavaram police station on Thursday, Polavaram DSP A T V Ravi Kumar said accused boat owner Khaja Mohiddin and boat driver Bandi Mohan Rao were surrendered before the village revenue officer of Kondrukota in Polavaram mandal on Wednesday.
On his information, a police team reached Kondrukota and arrested the accused and brought them to Polavaram police station. The DSP, who is investigating the case, said there were no life jackets in the boat for the passengers and the owner and driver loaded rice and cement bags in the passenger boat.
