Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) is going to release screening test results of assistant professors and publish new syllabus for Group -1 exams next week. The screening tests were conducted for notifications released for 14 universities in the state.

Over 22,000 candidates applied and nearly 17,000 students appeared for the exams, said APPSC chairman Pinnamaneni Udaya Bhaskar in an interview with The Hans India.

Udaya Bhaskar along with other members Sujatha Gurram and Ranga Janardhana Ginka explained that there will be roughly 20-25 per cent changes in the existing syllabus of Group 1 Main exams and will introduce two new papers including one in Mains (written) and another in Preliminary exams.

The expert committee working on it will submit the final syllabus in next week. After that, the APPSC will upload it on its website https://www.psc.ap.gov.in for collecting feedback from various stakeholders, Udaya Bhaskar said.

Ranga Janardhana said they were planning to collect feedback from students of selected universities in the state. After taking the feedback, the APPSC will do necessary changes if needed before finalising the new syllabus, he added.

Currently, there are six papers in Group 1 mains and one paper in the screening test for preliminary exam. Of the total six papers in Mains, there is one compulsory paper in English. APPSC will evaluate remaining five papers based on the qualifying paper in English.

Though the APPSC is not considering the marks obtained by student in qualifying paper for deciding ranks in results, it is mandated for English knowledge.

“This structure will be changed from next Group 1 onwards. The APPSC will introduce Telugu as qualifying paper in Mains exams,” he said. On the lines of Union Public Service Commission, Udaya Bhaskar said the APPSC will introduce second compulsory language test paper.

Now, with the introduction of Telugu paper in Group 1 Mains, there will be a total of 7 papers. All these seven papers will carry 150 marks, he added.

He said another paper with objective nature will be introduced in Preliminary exams. The members observed the second paper in the Preliminary exams will focus on mental aptitude of candidates and others. The first paper will be on general sciences and others.
