Vijayawada: Dr NTR University Health Sciences Vice-Chancellor Dr CV Rao said new reforms were introduced to improve the quality and training in Medical, Dental, Ayush, Physiotherapy, Nursing and allied courses.

Addressing the media on Friday, Dr Rao said meeting with all stakeholders and personal visits to the colleges to know their functioning has resulted in the constitution of various Boards of Studies to bring about a better academic ambiance.

He said that the Executive Council had accepted to computerise the University administration by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) which would help the administration of affiliated colleges for online transmission of data.

He said that major reforms in the examination pattern will be implemented from this academic year. According to him, University will monitor the examiners through centralised monitoring system and they would appoint a travel agent to take care of this aspect on the lines of MCI.

Dr CV Rao said internal assessment examinations will be uniform in all the colleges and the University will give the question paper as is being done in the final examination.

He said that thesis work of the post-graduates shall be submitted online after self-attesting the plagiarism-free certificate countersigned by the Principal.

Various new courses with B Sc degree in paramedical subjects and post-doctoral fellowship and certificate courses are being introduced, he said and added that a separate research fund is created to stimulate research activities by the faculty and students.

Dr Rao also informed that the Ph D, programmes will be encouraged, and a new foundation course for all the freshly admitted students is introduced to improve their communications skills, behavioural patterns and to make them self-confident.

He said that Basic Life Support (BLS) training will be given in all the colleges and Gold medals will be given to the best outgoing students at the time of convocation.

Holistic development of personality will be organised to encourage the hidden talent and skills of the students. Inter-medical cultural festival will be organised from this year. Two more general teacher training centres are proposed at Vijayawada, Dr Rao added.
