Vijayawada: A first of its kind, Radio Frequency Ablation (RFA) procedure was performed for treating Osteoid Osteoma on a 21-year-old and 5-year-old successfully at Manipal Hospitals here.

RFA procedure was performed on Moulali (21) and a child who were suffering from severe pain from hip to leg. They were diagnosed with Osteoid Osteoma, a bone tumor usually affects young people.

Doctors of Manipal Hospitals performed RFA technique which is a permanent, non-surgical and safer solution.

Speaking at the gathering here on Friday, Dr M Satish Babu, Consultant Interventional Radiology, Manipal Hospitals said that the patient Moulali was suffering severe pain in the hip joint area for the past one year.

After MRI scan, he was diagnosed with Osteoid Osteoma. He was treated with RFA procedure and the patient responded well to the treatment and the pain was reduced, said the doctor.

Dr Satish said in the same manner, a child was treated with RFA procedure who was suffering from Osteoid Osteoma.

Dr Sudhakar Kantipudi, Unit Head, Manipal Hospitals and others were present.
