Vijayawada: BJP will organise a huge public meeting in Guntur on Saturday on the occasion of Kanna Lakshminarayana assuming office as new president of state BJP. Several national leaders of the party, including Nirmala Sitharaman, Siddhartha Nath Singh, Ram Madhav, Daggubati Purandeswari and G V L Narasimha Rao will participate in the meeting. The party is planning to organise similar meetings across the state.

The BJP wants to show its strength with the Saturday’s meeting by mobilising huge crowds in the wake of its break up with the ruling TDP. Leaders are expected to speak about several issues of state, mainly AP Reorganisation Act in the meeting and some positive statements on railway zone and Kadapa steel factory may be made, said sources.

Apart from this, BJP wants to highlight the achievements in the four years rule of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as May 26 is the fourth anniversary of NDA rule. .

The party is determined to improve its strength in the state where it believes its vote share rose from four to six per cent to 15-20 per cent in the last four years. Before falling out with the TDP, the party is said to have demanded 10 Lok Samba seats and 50 Assembly seats. According to analysts, this demand may also be one of the reasons for the break up of alliance.

However, despite Modi mantra, the saffron party has lost its sheen in the state owing to sentiment in favour of Special Category Status. A senior leader of the party said this and other planned meetings would focus on the measures take by the NDA government for the development of the state and aim to allay apprehensions among people about the commitment of the BJP to the state’s development.
