Vijayawada: Former national kabaddi players, administrators, coaches and representatives of Kabaddi Associations from the state demanded that the state government dissolve the Andhra Pradesh Kabaddi Association and conduct a detailed probe into the allegations levelled against the secretary of the association M Veera Lankaiah about his misbehaviour towards some women kabaddi players.

Former kabaddi national players, coaches, present players and administrators spoke to the media here on Saturday at the Railway Institute.

They expressed concern over the deteriorating standards of the game in the state in the last two decades and allegations against Secretary of the Association M Veera Lankaiah levelled by some women kabaddi players about his misconduct.

The former kabaddi players and coaches expressed solidarity with Yalamanchili Srikanth, who was recently sacked as the secretary of the Krishna District Kabaddi Association.

He was sacked for allegedly exposing the irregularities being committed by the state association.

Addressing the media, Srikanth found fault with the state association for reposing faith on tainted secretary Veera Lankaiah, who surrendered in the court recently after facing criminal charges regarding misbehaviour with women kabaddi players.

He questioned as to how the state body would re-elect the tainted secretary, who had been facing criminal charges.

He said the image of Kabaddi Association was tarnished with the allegations levelled by the women kabaddi players.

He said Justice Lodha Committee has made it clear that no administrator can hold office for more than two terms but unfortunately Veera Lanakaiah had been holding the post, said former international player Arjuna Rao.

Many former players felt that misconduct of kabaddi official towards women players had tarnished the image of the game, when the popularity of the game was increasing in the country due to the impact of Pro-Kabaddi League.

The speakers lamented that not a single player from Andhra Pradesh has been selected for Pro-Kabaddi League.

Former national player AV Krishna Rao said the AP team had not won even a single reputed national tournament in the last two decades and game standards were also declined.

Senior kabaddi players L Viswesara Rao, Ramachandra Rao, E Hanumantha Rao, T Sudhakar and others spoke on the occasion.
