Ongole: The bankers in Prakasam district went on a two-day strike from Wednesday demanding hike in salaries, as per the national call of United Forum of Bank Unions, UFBU.

The employees of various banks held a protest in front of the Andhra Bank main branch on Wednesday and raised slogans against the Indian Banks Association, IBA.

The UFBU convener for Prakasam district, Ramachandra Rao said that it was a shame for IBA to offer just 2 percent hike in salaries as per the 11th pay revision.

He said that 480 bank branches in the district were affected with the strike and Rs 10,000 crore worth transactions were stalled due to this strike and warned the IBA and Central government that they were ready to do similar strike indefinitely.

G Vijay Mohan and Ch Sobhan Babu from National Confederations of Bank Employees, DK Rajendra Rao from All India Bank Officers Association also said that the bank managements were forgetting the services of employees rendered in a crucial time and warned to intensify the stir.

Other bank employees leaders like M Narendra Babu, P Janakiram, U Venugopal, V Narendra Kumar and others also participated in the protest on Wednesday.
