In a major thrust to rural connectivity, the Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Department has sanctioned 2,440 road and bridge works of a length of 4826 km with an estimated cost of Rs 3,575.94 crore to provide connectivity to unconnected habitations of having more than 250 population under the Andhra Pradesh Rural Road Connectivity Project (APRRP).
Amaravati: In a major thrust to rural connectivity, the Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Department has sanctioned 2,440 road and bridge works of a length of 4826 km with an estimated cost of Rs 3,575.94 crore to provide connectivity to unconnected habitations of having more than 250 population under the Andhra Pradesh Rural Road Connectivity Project (APRRP).
The project is aimed at connecting 3,274 habitations across the state. The total proposed 2,440 works have been divided into 50 packages under the Project. The state government launched the AP Rural Roads Connectivity Project to "provide one single all weather connectivity to eligible unconnected habitations of having more than 250 population”. The entire project cost of Rs 4,234 crore would be funded under the externally-aided projects (EAP) scheme with assistance of the Union government.
The Union Ministry of Rural Development has recommended the project proposal to the Department of Economic Affairs, Union Ministry of Finance, explained Principal Secretary to Panchayat Raj KS Jawahar Reddy. The Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, recommended the project to the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) for seeking financing by AIIB.
The Engineer-in-Chief of Panchayat Raj department, informed that the Superintending Engineers, Executive Engineers and Field Engineers concerned have verified all the proposals. Jawahar Reddy explained that the detailed investigations such as soil investigation, taking road levels, ascertaining CD works and other requirements duly conducting transit walk, etc, were taken up for each work.
Based on these investigations cost estimates and DPRs were prepared. The state government accorded administrative sanction for 2,440 works which include 2,428 road works and 12 bridge works with a total length of 4825.66 km.
Panchayat Raj Minister Nara Lokesh explained that all these works will be commenced within short span of time and will be completed in time-bound manner. Under this project, a total of 420 habitations will be covered in Srikakulam district to a length of 493 km. These works were divided into four packages and 315 separate works.
