Tribals afflicted by kidney problems have been dying in various Girijan tandas though the government time and again assuring medical help.
However, the District Collector and the tahsildar have been striving to some extent to provide succour to the patients but in vain.

Chitti, wife of the deceased, said that her husband would not have died, had the government established a dialysis centre at Tiruvuru or the primary health centre at A Konduru. “We are daily wage earners and how could we raise Rs 15,000 per month for treatment in corporate hospitals,” she said.

CPM State Committee member Chigurupati Babu Rao expressing concern over the continued deaths of tribals due to kidney ailments said that though Minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao assured the tribals that the dialysis centre would be established at Tiruvuru three months ago, nothing has been done.

After the CPM workers staged a protest, the District Collector called Babu Rao on his mobile and assured him that necessary steps would be taken. Babu Rao demanded ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the kin of the deceased from the CM Relief Fund and sanctioning of a pucca house for the family. Later, tahsildar Suresh went to the spot and assured the demonstrators that the government agreed to the demands.

However, on demand for a written assurance, the district medical and health officer gave the written assurance to the CPM leader. The DM&HO stated that dialysis centre would be started at Nuzvid on June 10, an ambulance would be provided to shift the kidney patients to Nuzvid.

CPM leaders Garikapati Vijay Prakash, N Ch Srinivas, Jetti Venkateswara Rao, D Ramudu, B Gopiraju, Ananda Rao, Yohan, Chinna Durga Rao, Alla Hammi Reddy, P Venkateswara Rao, Tirupati Rao and Mekala Rama Rao participated in the dharna. Deputy DM & HO Dr Asha, sub inspector Ramana and the Revenue staff also participated in the deliberations.
