Tirupati: Heavy rains with gusty winds lashed the pilgrim city on Friday evening, resulting in hoardings at several localities razed to ground and two wheelers parked on the road side fell on the ground and also disruption of power supply for several hours in the city.

The rains, heavy wind with intermittent lightening lasted for more than an hour in the city. Few trees in Balaji Colony and Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) area were uprooted while the heavy wind broke tree branches in many places in the city. Many localities remained in dark with power supply was not restored even after four hours.

The rain however helped to bring down the sizzling temperature in the city where mercury was hovering between 43 and 44 degrees Celsius for the last three days leaving the denizens facing a scorching heat. Met department predicted rains for another four days bringing the temperature further down to 37 degrees Celsius.
