Lightning strikes Historic Chandragiri Fort

Tirupati: A lightning during the heavy rains that created havoc in Tirupati struck historic Chandragiri fort on Friday evening.

The peak (Sikharam) of the fort was hit by lightning causing damage to the structure partially. Lack of lightning arrestors was the main reason for the incident.

Needless to say that the fort was under the control of Archeological Survey of India which has been showing apathy in protecting the ancient monument.

The proposals made by the district administration after district Collector's initiative and meeting with all stakeholders were never taken care of by the ASI.

The officers have been reviewing the situation now after yesterday's incident.
