Ongole: The members from Prakasam district Development Forum and farmers associations, who met Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari, Suresh Prabhu and Radha Mohan Singh in New Delhi this week, said that the ministers alleged Chandrababu Naidu is not responding to Centre’s request for land allotment for Ramayapatnam port.

The Ongole MP YV Subbareddy and a delegation of farmers from Prakasam district, including MareddySubbareddy, ChunduriRangarao, Bhairapuneni Suryanarayana, Janardhan andVenkateswarlu, met the Union minister for National Highways and Transport Nitin Gadkari, Minister for Commerce and IndustrySuresh Prabhu and Minister for Agriculture Radhamohan Singh at their offices in New Delhi on Wednesday and Thursday.

They explained the ministers about the need for intervention of the Union government for the welfare of tobacco andeucalyptus farmers. They also stressed on the need for Ramayapatnam port.

At a press meet held here on Saturday, ChunduriRangarao, said that they informed the ministers that they are ready to dismantle the tobacco barons and surrender licences to the tobacco board, if the government fails pay a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for each baron. He said that the former minister of Commerce Nirmala Sitaraman offered Rs 5 lakh as compensation. But the present ministers assured them to offer a price between Rs 5 to 10lakh. He said that they also discussed with the ministers that the farmers of social forestry are suffering losses.

Rangarao said that they delegation explained Nitin Gadkari about the need of Ramayapatnam port to the districtand the development it could bring. But to their surprise, Rangarao said, the minister had stated that the Union government was ready to construct Ramayapatnam port with Rs 12,000 crores. But it requires authentication of land allotment from the state government. Gadkari alleged that Chandrababu Naidu not responding to the request by his ministry for land allotment.
