Nellore: TDP state general secretary and former minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy is reported to have submitted his resignation to party leadership on Saturday. There has been no official confirmation either from his or the party. There are also no hints regarding what will be his next stop.

But the sources said he requested the party national president and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to relieve him of all party responsibilities in view of the declining stock of the party among people, which he has frequently asserted during Mini-Mahanadu meets recently.District TDP leaders have not taken his utterances over party losing its image seriously as they saw them a dig against his rivals in the party.

He has been frequently passing comments against the affairs of the party in the district and inefficiency of the local leaders in protecting the party image through constructive measures. The reported resignation, coming as it does ahead of the Chief Minister’s scheduled visit to the district on June 8, caused a shock among party leaders.

“Party freshly offered district president post and also some important Cabinet rank position to satisfy him. But, it seems there has been no progress in the deliberations as he stuck to his decision to quit the party. His friends and well-wishers also met in Hyderabad to plan his future plan of action,” said a TDP senior leader.

In fact, Ramanarayana Reddy has not been active in party activities for the last two years since he joined the ruling party. He had not participated in Mahanadu both last year and this year. He was found frequently making critical remarks on the party leaders on their alleged failures even in the presence of Minister P Narayana and even asked the minister to inform high command about the poor performance of the district party.

He directly targeted agriculture minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy for his failures as a minister to support farmers in the district, revealing group rivalries in the district party. “Ramanarayana Reddy has vast experience in politics and served as a minister earlier.

Now, district leaders have failed to include his name even on the flexi boards during official programmes. How can we swallow this kind of humiliation? He is a mature leader and hence did not express his anger in open,” said a leader loyal to Anam Ramanarayana Reddy.
