Vijayawada: City politics witnessed new developments when some of the followers of Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga including his brother-in-law and the Radha-Ranga Mithra Mandali state president Chennupati Srinivas gathered here on Sunday evening. According to his supporters, he is likely to join the TDP on June 7 in the presence of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

Chennupati Srinivas, who is the main supporter of Vangaveeti Ranga’s son and former MLA Vangaveeti Radhakrishna played a crucial role as Ranga’s supporter in the past. He also participated in the group rivalry between the late Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga and Devineni Rajasekhar (Nehru).

He took a leading role in the elections on behalf of Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga, Vangaveeti Ratna Kumari and Radha Krishna. It may be noted that they were elected as MLAs from Vangaveeti family in the past. So far, he remained with the Vangaveeti family taking care of Radha-Ranga Mithra Mandali. Moreover, he is a non-controversial person and Ranga’s followers including Kapu leaders like him very much.

But now he wants to join the TDP. On the other hand, Vangaveeti Ranga’s son Radhakrishna is continuing in the YSR Congress Party and is also getting ready to contest from Vijayawada Central constituency. In this backdrop, the new political development assumed significance.

The family members of MLA Bonda Umamaheshwara Rao are also the followers of Vangaveeti Ranga. At present, he is representing the Central constituency. Already, MLA Bonda was involved in various controversies and if he was shifted to any other constituency, Chennuapati Srinivas may get an opportunity to contest from the Central segment, said a senior leader.
