Ragpickers get Loans
West Godavari District Collector K Bhaskar here on Tuesday said that loans were distributed among the Pamula (rag pickers) caste people.
Eluru: West Godavari District Collector K Bhaskar here on Tuesday said that loans were distributed among the Pamula (rag pickers) caste people.
He said that the Pamula caste people can utilise these loans for their financial development.
He disbursed loans to them here as part of welfare schemes being implemented during Nava Nirmana Deeksha programme held at Collectorate.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that the officials identified 100 families of Pamula caste wandering in the streets and collecting the paper garbage on the streets and eking out a living by selling these waste papers.
Most of them were women. In view of their economic conditions, it was decided to extend loans for their financial development, he explained.
He suggested them to utilise the bank loans for their development and leave the present profession.
He also said that interested women and men of Pamula caste would be imparted training in various skills to get Rs 10,000 per month. The interested persons may register their names at BC Corporation.
Corporator Edpuganti Swaroopa Rani, TDP leaders Edpuganti Narasimha Rao and Dasari Anjaneyulu participated in the programme.
