Eluru: Dr K Shankar Rao, district coordinator of health sciences (DCHS) on Wednesday announced that a Master Men’s Health Check-up programme would be implemented in the district soon.

He reviewed the medical services extended in government hospitals in the district with the concerned hospital superintendents at a meeting held in Government Headquarters Hospital here.

Addressing the meeting, the DCHS said that already several health schemes were being implemented for the women.

However, the government decided to take up the master men health check-up programme exclusively for men. The rules and regulations would be issued by the government shortly.

He directed the hospital superintendents to implement the programme according to the directions in all the 18 government hospitals in the district.

The exclusive programme would improve the health conditions of men in society. The plan focuses on lungs, heart, diabetes and other related problems among men.

He directed the hospital superintendents to take up precautionary measures on the NIPHA virus which attacked the Kerala State. He stated that there was no possibility of spreading of NIPHA virus in the district.

However, precautions should be taken up, he directed. He said that the government had sanctioned two neo-natal care centres in agency areas of Buttayagudem and Polavaram.

These centres would be opened soon and would benefit the agency area people.

He said that an MRI scan machine sanctioned to Eluru Government Hospital and the device would be installed in the hospital by this month-end.

He called upon the blood donors to come forward to donate blood liberally as the present blood collection decreased in the hospital.

He said the actual requirement in the government hospital for blood was 500 units per week. However, as the colleges declared summer holidays, the collection of blood decreased to 350 units per week and the patients had been facing the problem.
