The citizens have been suffering from sultry weather conditions for the past one month as temperature levels were hovering around 40 degrees most of the days. The city registered similar rain on May 3 when cloud burst coupled with gales lashed the city.
People got respite first time on May 3 and again on June 5 as the rain lashed the city suddenly. Due to the impact of cumulonimbus clouds, the city witnessed sudden rainfall. State Disaster Management predicted rainfall and thunderbolts in parts of Krishna district including Vijayawada urban and rural mandal on Tuesday evening.
The city recorded 40.1 degrees temperature in the afternoon on Tuesday and suffocation continued till evening. Suddenly, the weather changed around 6 p.m. and rain started about 7 p.m. and lasted one hour giving big relief to the people.
Power supply was disrupted in dozens of colonies in the city from Auto Nagar area to Bhavanipuram. The power supply was restored later. Most of the areas in the city were plunged into darkness for an one hour.
Low-lying areas including Wychpet has been affected due to water logging. Hundreds of customers visiting the makeshift Haleem shops in one town area in the evening suffered due to the sudden cloud burst.
Commuters suffered hardships due to water logging in low bridge area, Pinnamaneni poly clinic road, Jammi chettu centre, Moghalrajpuram and Machavaram on Eluru road. Due to slow progress of storm water drain works in many parts of the city, water logged in the pits dug for laying the side drains.
