Vijayawada: Ministers Devineni Umamaheshwara Rao and Kollu Ravindra launched Miosolia (the ancient name of Machilipatnam) Beach Festival logo here on Wednesday.

The three-day beach festival will begin from June 9 and the district administration made elaborate arrangements for the event. Minister Kollu Ravindra called upon the public to take part in the event in a big way. The state government was according priority for tourism and entertainment, he said and added that Miosolia Beach Festival will be conducted for three days.

He further stated that various entertainment programmes and sports events would be part of the festival. The minister said that the festival has been named as Miosolia by taking into consideration of greatness, including heritage and culture of Machilipatnam town.

Food courts, mango exhibition, sports events, cultural programmes, flower show, musical concert and many more events would entertain the participants, he said.

On the occasion, the 2K Run would be conducted from Koneru Centre to Zilla Parishad Guest House in Machilipatnam town. Badminton star PVV Sindhu, several ministers and MLAs will participate in the event. Machilipatnam Port has historical background, he said and added that the government has plans to promote the beach tourism.

Several lakhs of people take holy bath at Machilipatnam beach during Karteeka Masam. Now the government wants to develop the entire beach, he said.

Krishna District Collector B Lakshmikantham said that the government had spent Rs 8 crore for the development of Machilipatnam beach. The beach would be developed as tourism centre, he said.

The District Collector also said that they would conduct many more programmes in near future for tourism development. The tourism department officials C Mallikarjuna Rao and Velga Joshi, principal of SRR and CVR Government College were also present.
