Vijayawada: Minister Nakka Ananda Babu has said tribal and SC students who have risked their life and climbed Mount Everest will be an inspiration to all students.

He participated in a felicitation programme of the students on Wednesday and congratulated them.

Addressing the gathering, Ananda Babu said that the bravery of the students should be appreciated and would be ideal for fellow students.

He informed that till now 29 students had climbed Everest from South India and out of them 14 students were from Andhra Pradesh.

He said that Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu had announced Rs 10 lakh each for climbing the Everest and Rs 5 lakh for students who climbed the base camp to encourage the students.

The minister advised the students to concentrate on studies with the same interest and dedication. The minister congratulated 230 students of welfare hostels for excelling in IIT-JEE.

He recalled that former CM NT Ramarao had established welfare hostels.
SC/ ST Commission chairman K Sivaji said that this kind of adventure sports would bring self-confidence in the students.

A cheque for Rs 10 lakh each and certificates were given to Everest climbers and Rs 5 lakh each to students who climbed up to base camp.

APSRTC chairman Varla Ramaiah, members of SC/ST Commission and others were present.
