3 civic workers inhale toxic gas, fall sick

Nellore: Three sanitation workers have inhaled toxic gas while they were working in Trunk Road area in the early hours of Wednesday. But, the incident came to light on Thursday. Corporation officials shifted them to Narayana Hospitals for treatment.

Prabhu Das entered into the drainage system initially and he screamed for help as he was feeling difficulty to breath. Then, Penchalaiah and Srinivasulu entered the manhole for saving him. They also faced same difficulty and others pulled from the hole and shifted them to hospital for treatment.

Further, City MLA Dr Anil Kumar, Deputy Mayor M Dwarakanath, and others visited the hospital where municipal workers were being treated. They criticised that even though crores of rupees were spent on Swachh Bharat, the civic officials failed to provide safety gear such as masks, gloves and shoes for their protection. They warned the officials to take care of lives of the contract labourers even though they were working in difficult environs.
