Ongole: The Prakasam district mobile court imposed a cash fine for 73 persons and imprisoned 63 from the fined group on Thursday, for drunken driving and violation of Motor Vehicles Act.

The Ongole traffic DSP, K Venugopal along with the SIs K Hanumantha Rao, U Srinivasulu and constables arrested 46 persons for drunken driving and violation of road safety rules, motor vehicles act and presented before the mobile court on Thursday.

The judge imposed a fine of Rs 2,100 for each person and the police collected Rs 96,600 from them.

The court also imprisoned 23 persons for two days, 23 persons for three days, 12 persons for five days and five persons for seven days each who drank above 100 percent of the permitted limit.

The Ongole traffic police offered counselling to the remaining persons involved in the drunken driving at the traffic police station.

The officers explained to them about the value of life, reasons for road accidents and the loss to the victims involved in them and their family members.

They also made the accused to understand the importance of following traffic rules and the impact of violation on them and their fellow commuters.

They made the accused to pledge not to involve in drunken driving again, before leaving the counselling session.
