The Southwest monsoon further advanced into Rayalaseema, and most parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh on Friday.

Hyderabad: The Southwest monsoon further advanced into Rayalaseema, and most parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh on Friday. Conditions are favourable for further advance of the monsoon into the remaining parts of the coastal districts during next 24 hours, as the east-west shear zone roughly across the south Peninsular India persists and is seen between 5.8 km & 7.6 km above the mean sea level, according to the Met department bulletin.

The bulletin said the cyclonic circulation over the west-central and adjoining north-west Bay of Bengal now lies over the north Bay and its neighbourhood. Under its influence, a low pressure area is very likely to develop over the north Bay during next 24 hours. It is likely to concentrate into a depression during the subsequent 48 hours.

As a result, the bulletin warned that heavy rain is very likely to occur at isolated places in all coastal districts on June 9. It said there was heavy rain across coastal Andhra on Friday, as the monsoon was active in Rayalaseema and normal in coastal Andhra.

Heavy rainfall occurred in East Godavari district, with Amalapuram recording 11 cm of rainfall. The chief amounts of rainfall (in cm) in the State were: Chodavaram (Vishakhapatnam), Palasa (Srikakulam), Atmakur and Manthralayam (both in Kurnool) 5 each, Gudivada (Krishna), Anakapalle
(Visakhapatnam), Tekkali (Srikakulam) and Gonegandla (Kurnool) 4 each.

There was 3 cm rain each in Kalingapatnam (Srikakulam), Bheemavaram (West Godavari), Nandavaram (Kurnool), Tadpatri (Anantapur), Kondapuram (Kadapa), Allagadda (Kurnool) and 2 cm each in Vinjamur (Nellore), Vararamachandrapur (East Godavari), Mandasa (Srikakulam), Yelamanchili (Vishakhapatnam), Polavaram (West Godavari), Jammalamadugu and Muddanur (both in Kadapa), Yemmiganur (Kurnool), Nambulipulikunta and Lepakshi (both in Anantapur) and Duvvur and Royachoti (both in Kadapa).

Following the rain, the day temperatures in the State fell sharply during the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Friday. The forecast said light to moderate rain or thundershowers are very likely at few/many places across Andhra Pradesh from June 9 to 12. No large change during the period June 13-15 is the weather outlook.
