Tirupati: Y Haribabu, the Vice-Chancellor of the Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University (SVVU) effected long-standing teaching and non-teaching staff transfers as per rules two weeks ago.

He gave transfer orders to 65 non-teaching and more than 40 teaching staff from the SVVU to affiliated colleges like Gannavaram, Tirupati and Proddatur. However, 20 senior professors are not willing to join the affiliated colleges.

It is learnt that few professors have been doing political lobbying to stop their transfers. Some of the SVVU staff have approached the varsity board member Vallabhaneni Vamsi to impress upon the V-C for keeping the transfers in abeyance.

Sources said that the AP Women’ Commission Chairperson Nannapaneni Rajakumari brought the controversy to the notice of Animal Husbandry Minister Adinarayana Reddy.

Meanwhile, the Principal Secretary of the Animal Husbandry department had issued orders of putting transfers in pending.

A team of SVVU officials went to Amaravati and explained to the higher officials of following guidelines issued by the state government.

However, the varsity officials committed mistake by giving exemption to secretary and president of the teaching associations to local colleges.

But, the government exempted only varsity state president and secretary of the teaching and non-teaching associations only.

The faculty, who have completed 15 years of service at one place, are vehemently opposing the transfers.

When ‘The Hans India’ has contacted SVVU Registrar Dr D Srinivasa Rao, he refused to give the clarification on transfers.

“I am not supposed to talk you about the transfers and I have no power to tell you the details,” the Registrar stated.
