Vijayawada: Officials of legal metrology department conducted raids on various shops in Vijayawada on Monday and booked 45 cases for failing to maintain norms as per the established rules.

Under the supervision of assistant controller of legal metrology P S R N T Swamy, 26 officials formed into four teams and raided the shops across the city.

The raids were conducted on 21 automobile shops, 10 tiles/sanitary shops, 5 clothes shops, 3 steel shops, one surgical shop, one bank and 4 other shops, said Swamy in a press release on Monday.

In one steel shop, a trader cheated the customer by weighing less quantity. As per the bill the weight of steel was 1,194 kg. But, it was only 1,147 kg when re-weight was done by the officials. Cases were booked for poor quality, under-weight and other lapses, said the official.
