Vijayawada: The engineering colleges are not issuing certificates to the students who passed the graduation nearly two months ago since the government did not reimburse their fees.

Presently, the colleges are demanding and collecting money from students for issuing certificates. Indeed, the government should pay the total fees to the colleges on behalf of students under the fee reimbursement scheme.

Since there is a delay in the release of second installment fees, the college managements are refusing to issue certificates. At present, the students, who want to join post-graduation course or get admission in foreign universities, have to pay fees from their pockets.

The state government is paying Rs 35,000 per student for various engineering courses. The fees amount is paid in two installments during the academic year. The state government paid first installment for final year engineering students for completed academic year.

The US-based universities and multinational software companies are asking the students to submit provisional certificates before joining their respective institutions. But the colleges are not issuing the certificates due to fees installment due.

In this backdrop, the students are forced to pay the fees before leaving the college for obtaining certificates. The poor and middle class sections are facing hardships from the fees burden.

Lakshmi, who recently completed her engineering graduation from a noted college in the city, faced the similar experience. The colleges are demanding anywhere from Rs 8,500 Rs 17,500 for issuing certificates. Some colleges are collecting more after calculating the demand of students.

Speaking to The Hans India, she said that she completed her graduation two months ago. The college management said that they would not give certificates unless she paid the fees, she said. K Venkateswara Rao, parent of one student, said that they are very poor and could not afford to pay the fees. He appealed the government to solve the problem.
