The people living in the Bestapalem area of Podili town took to the street as a protest against the local body for not supplying the drinking water for the last ten days.

Podili: The people living in the Bestapalem area of Podili town took to the street as a protest against the local body for not supplying the drinking water for the last ten days.

According to the locals Ramanamma and tea stall owner Anjamma, the pipe line supplying drinking water to the Bestapalem was broken about 10 days ago and the supply is interrupted since then.

The authorities announced that they will repair the broken pipeline in two days and promised to supply drinking water through the tankers in the mean time.

But the officials shown negligence in keeping their promise even though the locals requested them to send water tankers to the area for a number of times in the last week.

On Wednesday, the locals staged a protest on Kurnool to Ongole road, in front of the police station.

They blocked the road halting the traffic for a while raising slogans against the local authorities.

The CI Makineni Srinivasa Rao, SI Jathula Nagaraju discussed the issue with the agitating locals and the panchayat AE.

The locals stopped the protest after the police and AE convinced them that they would complete the repairs immediately and see the water supply is resumed.
