Visakhaatnam: A 40-year-old Army jawan (Naik Rank) Gavara Srinivasa Rao, hailing from Narava area in the city went missing a month ago. However, the family members of Srinivasa Rao and the Indian Army officials are clueless. The issue came to light after a post on twitter on Wednesday.
According to sources, Srinivasa Rao went missing on May 8 while going to Jalandhar where he was newly posted after transfer from Roorkee in Uttarakhand. The circumstantial evidence showed that Srinivasa Rao alighted from the train at Panipat in the early hours of May 8. Thereafter, he was not traceable. He called up his wife G Yagna Priya from a student's mobile phone and informed her that he had lost his wallet and mobile. He told her that he would call after reporting to duty at Jalandhar.
Finding something fishy, Srinivasa Rao’s wife Priya made a call to the Army Office at Jalandhar and she came to know that Srinivasa Rao didn’t report to the office. Priya also visited Jalandhar and Delhi to trace out her husband but her efforts went in vain. On May 15, Priya lodged a complaint with Pendurthi Police Station in Visakhapatnam. The Army officials also informed the missing of Srinivasa Rao to their head office and also the Government Railway Police and a few police stations in Paniput area.
Inspector of Police of Pendurthi P Suryanarayana said that Srinivasa Rao went missing at Paniput in Haryana and they transferred the case to Paniput police as he went missing in their jurisdiction. Both the police and Army officials launched a man-hunt to trace the missing Army jawan. The family members, including two sons of Srinivasa Rao, and a few others have been waiting for the safe return of Srinivasa Rao.
