Guntur: In-charge Collector Imtiaz Ahmed directed the officials to take steps to issue biometric identity cards to fishermen in the district.

He addressed a meeting with the officials in the Collectorate on Thursday. He reviewed biometric cards, setting up of notified and non-notified landing points, setting up of alert meters and painting of boats of fishermen with marine police and coastal security force officials.

He instructed the officials to give photo biometric cards to the fishermen. He also instructed them to set up notified fish landing points in NIzampatnam, Repalle and non-notified fish landing points in the remaining places and provide necessary infrastructure.

He instructed them to take steps to register all the boats operated by the fishermen. He asked the officials to set up alert transmitters to the boats of fishermen. He said that the government had taken steps to construct second jetty and take steps to construct it.

Joint Director of fisheries department Siva Sambrajyam said that so far 2,689 boats were registered in the district. She said that so far 50 per cent of the boats were painted. Marine, Coastal Security Force officials were also present.
