Nellore: Assailants robbed 115 boxes containing chemical material of explosive nature used in pharmaceutical industries by robbing the vehicle after attacking the driver close to Boodanam Toll Plaza late on Tuesday night.

The incident came to light after driver of the truck lodged a complaint with the Chillakur cops on Wednesday morning. Police are suspecting the role of truck driver, who was in contact with another company and had allegedly sold the 115 boxes worth Rs 14.7 lakh to them.

According to sources and police, a truck belongs to Sreepathi Pharmaceuticals Limited was carrying 180 boxes of valuable chemicals worth Rs 23 lakh imported from China. When the truck from Chennai harbour reached Boodanam Toll Plaza, some unidentified persons stopped the truck and attacked the driver and shifted 115 boxes from the truck to another vehicle.

They left the truck and the driver at Annamedu cross roads on Kota-Vakadu highway late on Tuesday. The cops took up investigation based on the complaint. “We have received a complaint about robbery of 115 chemical boxes from the truck. We are investigating the role of the driver,” said P Akkeswar Rao, Gudur Rural Circle Inspector.
