The government again neglected backward Srikakulam district in setting up of new government degree colleges.

Srikakulam: The government again neglected backward Srikakulam district in setting up of new government degree colleges.

Five government degree colleges were assured in the district by the TDP government in 2014. Earlier, new degree colleges were proposed in Etcherla, Ponduru, Kotturu, Palasa and Kanchili in the district.

Subsequently, the then regional joint director for government degree colleges M Gangeswara Rao and Srikakulam Government Degree College for Men principal M Babu Rao had prepared a feasibility report for setting up of new government degree colleges in the district.

They prepared a favourable report and recommended to the government on requirement of colleges in five locations as mentioned above.

At that time of preparation of feasibility reports, regional joint director had assured to start classes for the government degree colleges at Ponduru and Palasa from 2018-19 academic year.

But even a single government degree college was proposed to start in the district.
Recently, the state government decided to start 15 new GDCs in the state and Minister for HRD Ganta Srinivasa Rao reviewed with the college education department officials on June 14 at Amaravati on establishment of new government degree colleges in the state but none of them was proposed in Srikakulam.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu assured to start government degree college at Etcherla during his tour in 2014 but even his assurance was not fulfilled.
