Vijayawada: Minister for law, justice and sports Kollu Ravindra said on Tuesday launching of cargo services from Gannavaram Airport to other parts of India would be highly benefit the farmers in the state.

He said aqua products, fruits like mango, guava, custard apple and spices can be exported from Gannavaram to Delhi and other parts of the country within a day. Speaking to media after launching the cargo services from the Gannavaram Airport. he said there was a huge demand in Delhi for the aqua products, particularly prawns.

The airport authorities made arrangements for the loading, unloading of goods at the airport and clearance of documents related to export and import. Old terminal building will be used for the cargo services. Sripa Logistics entered into an MoU with the airport authorities to render services to the traders.

Airport director G Madhusudan Rao said the traders can book their cargo at the airport. Three to four tonnes of goods can be exported or imported in the flights from Tuesday onwards. Earlier, space was provided for transportation of only 600 to 700 kg in the flights.

So far, flight services are being operated from Gannavaram Airport to Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Vizag, Tirupati and Chennai. With the launching of cargo services, the activity in the airport is expected to increase further. Courier companies will also be benefited with the launching of cargo services.
