Ongole: When the door is knocked, the unsuspecting Chintalapudi Padma, clad in a colourful saree, wearing flowers and bangles, opened it. She was shocked when the visitors said that they are coming from the Insurance company in which her husband paid a premium last year.

Chintalapudi Edukondalu and his wife Padma are natives of Pamur mandal in Prakasam district, but migrated to Ongole for a living. Edukondalu took an insurance policy with Exide Life Insurance Company Limited last year. He paid a premium of Rs 20,000 for the policy. When the company informed him about the due date for renewal, he didn’t respond.

K Murali Krishna, Branch Manager of the Exide Life Insurance Company Limited in Ongole said that Edukondalu, who lives on the next street to their office and regularly meets them, didn’t renew the policy in time.

One day, the insurance company received a claim through online along with the documents like death certificate, legal heir certificate etc. His wife claimed insurance amount stating that her husband Edukondalu has dead.

Murali Krishna said as it is an early claim, the company representatives visit the policy holder’s place and conduct a formal inquiry before sanctioning insurance benefits. But, the company representatives are shocked to find Padma, wife of Edukondalu, in a happy mood .

Suspecting that something is wrong, they inquired in the area and found that Edukondalu is alive and a false claim is made with forged documents. When the insurance company officials asked why he did this, Edukondalu responded in a rough tone and asked them to do whatever they can do.

The insurance company filed a complaint with the Ongole Taluk police. SI Rajarao of the Taluk police said that they are conducting the inquiry and found that it was fraudulent claim. He said that they are going to verify the documents and certificates.
