In the wake of the scorching heat wave prevailing in the state, the education department has declared three days holidays to the schools in the state. The heat wave is likely to continue till June 22 and later there would be showers, according to YK Reddy, director of India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Speaking to The Hans India here on Tuesday, Reddy said that the monsoon current has weakened, which resulted in the heat wave across the state. He said that most of the times break monsoon period is observed in the months of June and July and the temperatures will rise in the coastal parts of the state.

He said that the sweltering heat was due to the sun being close to our location in the break monsoon period which makes feel the heat wave across the coast line. He said that temperatures will be high at break monsoon period due to the heat radiation and clear sky. He said that the present heat wave is not due to climatologically changes.

He said that the present heatwave is due to Monsoon Intra Season Variability. The effect of this will be till June 22, and after which showers are expected at most parts of the state, and the temperature will come down, said Reddy. As a precautionary measure, children and elderly people are advised to remain indoors during the day time from 10 am to 4 pm, he said.
