Amaravati: A fortnight ahead of the end of his term, Advisor to AP govt Parakala Prabhakar has resigned. Prabhakar, husband of Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said he was quitting because his continuation was giving scope for the Opposition to doubt CM Chandrababu Naidu’s sincerity in his battle with the BJP for getting what is due to the state.

Prabhakar, in his two-page resignation letter sent to the Chief Minister on Tuesday, said that he did not want the latter to suffer any damage to his image because of his continuation. “Jaganmohan Reddy was casting aspersions on you that you were continuing me because you wanted to have backdoor dealings with the BJP through me. These allegations have pained me,” he said.

Prabhakar reminded Naidu how he advised him against resigning when he told him how he was feeling in the changed political scenario when he met him last night. Nonetheless, he had decided to quit because his conscience was not allowing him to continue. He requested Naidu to accept his resignation immediately and relieve him from his responsibilities.

Naidu took Prabhakar as communications advisor to the government immediately after he took over as the Chief Minister in 2014 for a two-year term. After the first term was over, it was renewed for another two years.

When Naidu took him, it was considered a shrewd move since Prabhakar’s wife Sitharaman was part of Narendra Modi’s cabinet and he was understood to have figured out that it would help him in getting more funds for the state faster.
