Vijayawada: Agricultural Minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy said that the State government allocated 600 acres of land for the Mega Seed Park in Kurnool district and sanctioned Rs 100 crore. He participated in a two-day Mega Seed Park workshop here on Wednesday along with the delegates from USA-based Iowa State University, Philippines-based International Rice Research Institutes and officials of agricultural university.
Addressing the media on the occasion, he said that the State government was committed to the welfare of the farmers and was bringing in technology in agriculture from across the world. He pointed out that in agriculture growth the State was far ahead when compared to the Centre.
He said that the AP government had exchanged Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the USA-based Iowa State University for boosting the seed sector in the State and to provide quality seeds to farmers.
He said that the BJP-led NDA government had indirectly imposed Rs 1,750 crore burden on farmers by increasing the cost of fertilisers and diesel.
Somireddy alleged that the Central government was buying 80 per cent of the agricultural products based on Minimum Support Price only from the BJP ruling States across the country.He said that the MSP would serve as a platform to accelerate the seed industry and related human capital development in the state and would create wealth for both the State and the farming community.
He said that the government of AP assured all its support financially and administratively to make the seed park a global model. He said that tenders will be called for the construction of the buildings and would set up processing units and laboratories. A full time Chief Executive Officer would be appointed within 15 days, he added.
