GITAM Vice-Chancellor Prof MS Prasada Rao said that the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD)  has placed the GITAM University name in newly initiated ‘Study in India’ programme.  

Visakhapatnam: GITAM Vice-Chancellor Prof MS Prasada Rao said that the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has placed the GITAM University name in newly initiated ‘Study in India’ programme.

While interacting with the foreign students and parents during the admissions on Thursday, the Vice-Chancellor said that ‘Study in India’ programme’s primary objective is to target foreign students by branding India as an attractive education destination.

About 90 institutes, including IIT, NIT, IISAR, IIMs, a few State and Central Universities and selective Deemed Universities were selected based on NAAC grade and NIRF ranking for this mission, he added.

The MHRD recently granted graded autonomy to GITAM which gives freedom to admit foreign students and enter into academic collaboration with top 500 universities of the world. Through study in India programme, GITAM is getting good response from the students from Nepal, Taiwan, USA, the UK, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Ghana, Prasada Rao said.

GITAM is one of three institutes from the state selected for Study-in-India programme promoted by the Centre. More number of international students preferring to study in Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad for its culture, food and quality of education.

GITAM has established a separate international office to look-after welfare of foreign students, the Vice-Chancellor explained. GITAM International Student Relations Director KPC Kishan and GITAM Institute of Technology Principal Prof K Lakshmiprasad were present.
