Vijayawada: India is in the first position in buffalo farming and second in cow farming across the world and produces 65,000 metric tonnes of milk every year, said Gannavaram Veternary College director Dr Ch Venkateswara Rao.

He was the chief guest at a seminar organised by the Biology department of Siddhartha Mahila Kalasala here on Friday.

Addressing the gathering, Rao explained about the features and milk production of various breeds of cows available in the country. He said that Murra breed cows produce more milk and for more production of milk there should be proper shed, air, water, sunlight and temperature, he added.

He explained the management procedures and other precautions for dairy industry. He briefed about the precautions taken for calves and milking cows by giving quality feed.

He said that medical care should be taken on regular intervals. He said that by learning the basics of dairy farming, they can start a dairy industry, he added.

College principal, Dr T Vijaya Lakshmi, Biology department faculty D Uma, Dr K Lakshmi and others were present.
