Rajamahendravaram: BJP state president Kanna Lakshminarayana alleged that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of playing dual role on Polavaram irrigation project.

Speaking to reporters here on Sunday, Lakshminarayana said the Central government took up the responsibility of the project declaring it as a national project at an estimated cost of Rs 16,000 crore. The Central government reimbursed every paisa to state government, he added. He criticised the Chief Minister for keeping people in the dark about the facts relating to the project to get political mileage.

“The BJP government at the Centre entrusted the task of constructing the project to the state government on the request of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is very particular to complete the project as early as possible. The Centre never cheated Andhra Pradesh on Special Category Status (SCS) and it was Naidu who had agreed for special package and has now taken a U-turn,” he said.

Stating that the Prime Minister was not holding up funds to any project in the country which was promised by the party, Lakshminarayana said Naidu was trying to tarnish the image of Modi with false propaganda. He said issues relating to Polavaram oroject were discussed with Union minister Nithin Gadkari by him and he assured to complete the project without delay.

Former Union minister Daggubati Purandeswari said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had merged seven mandals of Telangana in Andhra Pradesh through an ordinance clearing the decks for Polavaram project which shows his commitment towards the project. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu never tell truths and BJP does never tell lies, she said. Party leaders Kavuri Sambasiva Rao, MLC Somu Veerraju, MP Gokaraju Gangaraju and others were present.
