​Vijayawada: Assistant Director of Drug Control Administration department V Veer Raju has said drug addiction is very dangerous and asked the students not to get habituated to taking drugs and intoxicants.

He addressed the students of IIIT, Nuzvid on Monday. An awareness meeting was organised at IIIT to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking to be observed on June 26 around the world.

Department of drug administration, prohibition and excise and police conducted the awareness meeting. Speaking on the occasion, Raju said stringent laws have been made to punish the guilty who were involved in taking of drugs or in drug trafficking.

He said drug mafia was luring the students to make easy money and asked the students to be cautious with the drug peddlers and mafia. He explained ways and means to come out of the addiction. He explained the antidotes which were useful to the drug addicts.

Circle Inspector Y Srinivas has said drug addiction spoils the health and suggested the students not to get attracted to narcotics and intoxicants. The college staff and students participated in the awareness programme.
