The district health administration has geared up to extend medical facilities in all the 64 mandals in East Godavari. Apart from 1,050-bed teaching hospital in Kakinada government general hospital [KGGH], the distract has 128 PHCs and 30 CHCs to deal with seasonal diseases.

Kakinada: The district health administration has geared up to extend medical facilities in all the 64 mandals in East Godavari. Apart from 1,050-bed teaching hospital in Kakinada government general hospital [KGGH], the distract has 128 PHCs and 30 CHCs to deal with seasonal diseases.

As far as urban population is concerned, both Kakinada and Rajamahendravaram have 15 health centres. The seven municipalities Tuni, Peddapuram, Pithapuram, Samalkota, Ramachandrapuram, Amalapuram, Mandapeta and Gollaprolu and Mummidivaram Nagara panchayats have one each health centre making the total to 24 in all.

During rainy season, the snake bite cases were also reported from rural areas. To meet these, the medical officials also kept anti-snake venom at identified areas to use it for snake bite cases apart from regular antibiotics and other medicines for regular and emergency medical care.

In rainy season there will be spurt in accidents due to bad road conditions. To meet these requirements one trauma care centre has been in operation for the last few years at Tuni.

Apart from this KGGH and the Vaidya Vidhana Parishad hospital at Rajamahendravaram caters to medical needs of these cases. In Konaseema area in the district, diarrhea cases are reported during rainy season due to water contamination. In order to prevent this, medical authorities have taken chlorination of water bodies in association with Panchayat authorities.

In the Agency area in Y Ramavaram, Yetapaka, Rampachodavaram, Addateegala and other areas where Malaria cases are reported during rainy season, mosquito nets, long lasting insecticidal nets have been supplied in these tribal areas. The district has 5 blood banks to cater to emergency needs.

“In addition to this, we have taken all measures to bring down infant mortality rate in the district. We have kept special focus on antenatal and post-natal care also,” said Dr T Ramesh Kishore, East Godavari, DMHO and DCHS.
