Andhra University will take up the academic affairs of the courses, Andhra Pradesh Sainik Welfare Board will select the beneficiaries while the AP Skill Development Corporation will fund the programmes.

Addressing a media conference here on Tuesday, Vice Chancellor of Andhra University Prof G Nageswara Rao said that fire and safety engineering, foreign languages, fitness trainer courses would be started exclusively to the ex-servicemen. Each course duration is three months and 60 personnel would be given admission in each batch and the first batch would be started in July, he added.

After the witnessing the special programmes to the defence personnel, the Sainik Welfare Board approached the Andhra University to provide skill development courses to the ex-servicemen to lead their life in a better condition.

Andhra University already signed the MoU with Indian Air Force, Navy and Military and offering diploma, MBA, PG diploma and certificate courses. As many as 1,300 defence personnel already trained in various courses, including foreign languages. Andhra University is providing training in French, Japanese and German languages. With this, the university earned Rs 120 crore by launching the new courses, the Vice Chancellor said.

Meanwhile, the university is setting up a laboratory for pharmaceutical and drug analysis at a cost of Rs 15 crore, he added. Joint Secretary of Defence Ministry P Hariprasad said that the ministry has decided to provide skill development training programmes to the ex-servicemen.

With the new skill certificates and disciplined service in the defence sector, the ex-servicemen would get good jobs. Rector of Andhra University Prof K Gayatri Devi, Registrar Prof B Umamaheswara Rao and others were present.
