Vizianagaram: The state government and Indian railways are gearing up to solve traffic problem by constructing the subway and flyover here. The new flyover and subway will help the people to have a hassle-free journey.

At present, the age-old flyover is being used to cross the railway track in Vizianagaram town and the bridge is very narrow as the flyover was constructed during the British regime as per the requirement of those days. But gradually the number of vehicles increased, and the old flyover is not in a position to serve the present traffic requirements.

Later, TDP senior leader P Ashok Gajapathi Raju and others had taken out a rally five years ago and collected the signatures of the people and sent them to the Union government to solve the traffic problem.

Later, the government had sanctioned Rs 10 crore to construct the flyover and subway. Ashok Gajapathi reviewed the works many a time when he was Union Minister and directed the officials to complete the works soon.

The works are going on at a brisk pace. In all, 30 engineers and other technicians working day and night and to the complete the flyover and subway.

Once the flyover is opened to people, vehicles passing towards Salur and Bobbili can move through subway and the vehicles coming from return journey can come by the flyover. The flyover is being constructed in the model of Howrah Bridge and it’s attracting the people. Huge cranes are being used to lift the pre-fabricated parts and the technicians are easily fixing them.

This will ease the traffic in the town and the heavy vehicles, containers and trucks will pass through this flyover. K Ramana, a lorry driver said: “Generally, I travel between Vizianagaram and Salur around 15 times in a month and every time I face troubles to drive my lorry on the old flyover”.

This fly over would be opened in a few days, once the authorities get clearance from the higher officials. Interestingly, the flyover is named after ‘Santakaala Bridge’ as it was sanctioned by the government after sending the signatures of the people. The name 'Santakaala Vantena 'is engraved in Telugu on the top of the flyover.
