Ongole: The Prakasam district unit of Andhra Pradesh Model Schools Teachers Federation staged a protest in front of the District Collectorate on Wednesday, demanding that the government take control of Model Schools in the state and implement the recommendations of the MLCs Committee immediately.

The district president of the APMSTF, E Ramesh Babu said that the Model Schools were established in the state in 2013 with 75 percent contribution from the Central government and 25 percent from the state government.

Though the Union government backed off the project in 2015, the state government was continuing it and paying the salaries of the permanent and contract staff through grant in aids.

As the performance of the model schools won accolades from all sections of society, the government permitted the schools to increase the number of seats by 20 percent in each class, he explained.

M Nageswara Rao, secretary of the federation in the district claimed that they were working hard and keeping up the good name.

The government should take up the administration of the model schools. He also demanded that the government implement the MLCs Committee recommendations and clear the arrears like PRC, DA and increments.

He also wanted the government to fill the vacancies of principals, PGT, TGT and appoint Hindi PGTs in the schools. He announced that they were ready to protest in front of the directorate on July 13, if the government neglected their demands.
