Akiveedu: Traffic in Akiveedu is posing a biggest challenge to police department. A busy junction in West Godavari, Akiveedu has become a transit point for thousands of heavy vehicles transporting aqua products, including fish and prawns.

The town houses many ice factories as the aqua products need to be supplied through cold chain. Husk-laden trucks and other heavy vehicles also find their way here. Even vehicles from ONGC have to pass through the town.

The national highway No 165 takes S turn in the main centre of Akiveedu. If a container has to travel through the S turn, it will take some time as town traffic also moves though a congested road which hardly meets the desirable width.

At least 15 feet road are needed to meet NH requirement. Surprisingly, the road becomes slim in the town owing to unknown reasons.

As a result, the road resembles Padmavyooham as quoted in epic Mahabharata. Anybody who entered the traffic here turns out to be crucial character Abhimanyu who only knows how to enter Padmavyooham and has no knowledge on how to come out of it.

It will take two kms of travel and 30 minutes of time for the vehicle riders and others to come out of the main centre. The police have also helpless to tackle the traffic between 5 pm and 9 pm.

Though a bypass road was planned, there was no clue about the scheduled time of its construction. Many representations from people to widen the highway and divert heavy vehicles onto bypass road remained unaddressed.
