20L women to be trained in financial mgmt
Mission of Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA) on Wednesday entered into a MoU with Vodafone India Foundation and Learning Links Foundation in the presence of Minister for Municipal Administration P Narayana on imparting training on financial management related issues to 20 lakh women in urban areas.
Amaravati: Mission of Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA) on Wednesday entered into a MoU with Vodafone India Foundation and Learning Links Foundation in the presence of Minister for Municipal Administration P Narayana on imparting training on financial management related issues to 20 lakh women in urban areas.
The Learning Links Foundation will conduct training programmes in a phased manner to the women and the Vodafone India Foundation will provide funds for the programmes under corporate social responsibility.
The training programme will impart knowledge on earning, spending and saving money and money transactions with banks.The Municipal Administration Minister said that as Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu set the target of Rs 1.20 lakh annual income to each poor family in the State, the MEPMA was taking up the training programmes to the women to create awareness on financial management. He said the annual income of women in MEPMA was Rs 36,000 in 2016 and it increased to Rs 68,000 in 2018.
“The Chief Minister has set a target that the annual income of every poor family in the State must reach Rs 1.20 lakh by 2020. The government has also appointed 4 lakh Sadhikara Mitras in the State to ensure better implementation of welfare schemes for the benefit of poor,” he said.
Principal Secretary for Municipal Administration Karikal Valaven said several women in the State could emerge as industrialists but the lack of understanding was a hurdle for their development.
He opined that the training programme by Learning Links Foundation would help the women to utilise the family business plan introduced by MEMPA for the economic development of poor.
MEPMA Managing Director China Tataiah said that though the government spends Rs 5,000 crore per year for the uplift of the poor, only 60 per cent of people utilise the opportunity.
