HDFC Bank, city cops join hands on traffic awareness

Vijayawada: The leading private sector bank HDFC, and the city police have joined hands to bring traffic awareness among the citizens.

Deputy Traffic Commissioner Meera Prasad and Cluster head of the HDFC Bank C Pavan Kumar on Thursday released three vehicles in the city assisted by a posse of volunteers who would strive to bring awareness among the citizens during the three-day programme.

Named ‘Traffic Pathashala’, the programme is aimed at advising the citizens to put on helmets while riding the two-wheeler motorcycles and wear seat belts while driving cars, Pavan Kumar said.

The volunteers will present some ‘goodies’ to the traffic-abiding citizens and advise the wrong doers not do so.

The volunteers also advise the citizens not to drive on the wrong side of the road and not to park vehicles at wrong places, he added.

Meera Prasad, Deputy Transport Commissioner, recalled the recent accident in Kurnool district where nine persons were killed when an auto driver drove the vehicle on the wrong side and overloaded the auto with 15 persons.

He appealed to the people to adhere to the traffic rules and save lives of others too.

“Engineering, Education and Enforcement are strictly implemented to bring down the deaths due to accidents,” he said.

He said that special teams were deployed to catch the vehicles which are driven on the wrong side of the road and wrong parking.
