Ongole: The Prakasam District Development Forum and various farmers organisations in the district conducted an open talk on ‘Agriculture activity in the coming year’ at Acharya NG Ranga Bhavan here on Thursday.

The speakers opined that there was no use of the government celebrating Eruvaka without providing an assurance for the produce and the minimum support price to the farmers.

The speakers include the forum president, Chunduru Rangarao, Suparipalana Vedika former president Tatiparti Gopal Reddy, Chunchu Seshaiah from Virgina Tobacco Growers Association, Annam Kondalarayudu, treasurer of the PDDF, Mareddy Subbareddy from YSR Raitu Vibhagam, Students JAC leader Rayapati Jagadeesh, other PDDF leaders Cherukuri Kiran, Sudhakar Rao and others.

They opined that the government had failed to provide seeds that increase quality and quantity of the crop, reduce production cost, give MSP to all produce, control the middlemen for years.

They said that the tenant farmers were suffering to pay the lease price for the land while the rate for the produce they were being offered was not sufficient for the money invested on the crop.

They demanded that the government prepare the action plan for the next agriculture season based on the market intelligence, suggest crops to the farmers, keep ready the market yards and godowns with protection equipment for crop from weather conditions and control the middlemen and merchant syndicates by honestly using the administration.

They demanded the government to give assurance to farmers by providing minimum support price by calculating 150 percent of the expenses incurred in the production and offer it to all produce with the farmer.
