Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government has appointed a four-member selection committee to choose the new DGP for the state.Incumbent DGP M Malakondaiah will retire on June 30. In this backdrop, the new DGP will be appointed in one or two days.

The government issued GO 1402appointing a selection committee on Wednesday. The committee comprises Dinesh Kumar, Chief Secretary, Dr Manmohan Singh, Special Chief Secretary, Dr D Sambasiva Rao, Special Chief Secretary, and Secretary to government (political), General administration department.

However, the GO did not mention the name of the fourth member, but his position was mentioned as the Secretary to the Government (Political), General Administration Department. The GO said the new DGP can be selected amongst the officers in the rank of Director General of Police on the basis of the length of service, professional knowledge and ability to lead police force in the state.

The following are in the race for the coveted post: Vijayawada Commissioner of Police Gautam Sawang, ACB DG R P Thakur, Vice-chairman and Managing Director of APSRTC N Surendrababu and Principal Secretary (home) A R Anuradha.
