Vijayawada: The leaders of Telugu Desam, including MLAs Gadde Rammohan and Bonda Umamaheshwara Rao, MLC Budda Venkanna, staged a protest in front of Steel Authority of India local area office here on Wednesday as part of extending solidarity with MP CM Ramesh, who sat on an indefinite hunger strike, demanding Kadapa steel factory.

They asked the Centre to set up steel factory in Kadapa as per AP Reorganisation Act. MLA Gadde Rammohan Rao said that Rajya Sabha member CM Ramesh was observing indefinite hunger strike for the past few days, but the Centre failed to respond. He recalled that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu also raised the issue with the Prime Minister for 29 times, but in vain.

MLA Bonda Umamaheswara Rao said that Opposition leader YS Jaganmohan Reddy had nexus with the Centre. He said that the Centre did not give Kadapa steel factory following the suggestions of the latter. MLC Budda Venkanna said that the CM Ramesh and Ravi were observing hunger strike for protecting the interests of the State.

He said that the YSRC leaders were supporting the BJP. He requested people to understand the self interests of YSR Congress. The rank and file of Telugu Desam raised slogans against the Centre and the BJP. They also displayed placards. Several local leaders were also present.
