Vijayawada: Vastu objections blocked the construction of Pasupathi temple atop Indrakeeladri hill and renovation work on various places on the premises of Durga temple.

Indeed, the government wants to construct a temple for Lord Siva, also known as Pasupati, to inform people about the penance undertaken by Arjuna appealing Lord Siva for ‘pasupathastram’. Now the government is in a dilemma to take up the project due to the objections raised by the vastu and agama pundits.

The temple trust board took the decision in its meeting in the past to construct Pasupathi temple atop Indrakeeladri hill. According to the mythology, Arjuna offered prayers to Lord Siva on Indrakeeladri and successfully received ‘Pasupatastram’ from Lord Siva as a gift. Arjuna also installed a Sivalinga and offered prayers and finally it was converted into a temple. But the temple is in a dilapidated condition now.

In this backdrop, the state government decided to construct a temple in the same location. Temple trust board member G Padma Sekhar and several members, along with the officials, visited the spot.

Initially, they chalked out plans to reconstruct the temple. They envisaged that the temple would attract more devotees due to its ancient history. According to sources, the temple management is now in a dilemma due to temple astrologer and vastu pundits expressing different opinions. Sources said that a section of pundits opposing the plan.

They said that any other temple should not be constructed over and above the Durga temple. Now the temple administration is rethinking on Pasupathi temple construction, according to sources. However, some other renovation works were also halted in midway due to vastu objections.
